Riyadh, July 25: At least 14 people have been killed and three others injured in flash flooding in southern districts of Saudi Arabia, Saudi officials have announced.
The incident claimed the lives of Saudi people in several mountainous areas of Asir, Jazan, Najran and Taif, the country’s civil defense members said on Saturday.
Rescue teams managed to evacuate some 440 people trapped in the regions after several days of heavy rains.
Civil Defence chief Saad al-Tuwaijri told Saudi media that his department was prepared to deal with the emergency.
He further added that his 60 field teams were capable of reaching any affected areas even if they are inaccessible to ground units.
