1,357 PG medical seats filled

Vijayawada, April 07: The NTR University of Health Sciences has filled 1,357 of 1,620 postgraduate medical seats by 9 pm on Thursday in the first phase of counselling.

Till Wednesday 1,143 seats, including 715 for clinical degree, 176 for non-clinical degree, 240 for clinical diploma and 12 for non-clinical diploma courses, had been filled up.

For the first time, the university conducted counselling for local candidates and later for non-locals as per High Court’s directions. The counselling for local candidates began on April 28 and concluded on May 3. Counselling for non-local categories was taken up on Wednesday and Thursday.

With the introduction of 100-point reverse roster system, reserved category candidates got prime seats for the first time. Previously, the system was used after 300 or 400 points, by which time all prime seats were filled.

Top-ranker SV Kartik, who had opted for MD (general medicine) course at Andhra University under the local category at first, opted later for the same course at Osmania University in the non-local category.

Second-ranker R Kartika Chowdary, who too had opted for MD (general medicine) at Andhra University under local category, now opted for the same course at Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad in the non-local candidates category.
