Despite High Courts strict orders against organizing cockfights in Andhra Pradesh, organizers of cockfight went ahead prompting police to book cases against the violators.
Andhra Pradesh DGP Sambasiva Rao on Monday informed the media that as many as 1,347 cases were registered against the violators of cockfight ban orders. Mr Rao said that 91 cases were registered in Vijayawada, while in West Godavari 337 cases, 136 cases in East Godavari district, Guntur Rural reported 309 cases. Krishna district reported highest violations with 471 cases being registered in the district.
Statues desecration: Culprits won’t be spared
The DGP said that the administration would come up with new rules on flexis and erecting statues in the state in the wake of demolition of a bust-size statue of Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga Rao, icon of Kapu community, in Vijayawada which sparked protests in many parts of the state. He said that the police was working on restricting statues or placing flexi banners as per the High Court directions and government order issued in 2003 in this regard. He said that the police would be dealt with strictly with the miscreants involved in defacing statues of tearing banners. (INN)
