13 students from Srinivas college were asked to stay away from the institution for wearing hijab (headscarf) in the college premises.
The students were studying Pharmacy and were sent back to home for not following ban.
The girl students and the parents raised their voice against the decision as they claimed that the decision was against their religious belief.
However the mangement insisted that the students were aware of the college rules and they were well aware of the college policy of banning ‘hijab’ at the time of admission.
Inspite of banning hijab in the college premises, the students did not follow it, the police said.
The college authorities did not heed to the protest and are in no mood to relent and decided to crack a whip against them and sent 13 students to home for violating the ban.
According top the Principal Ramakrishna S, the college had a uniform policy and we have a reason for banning hijab and the students has to adhere to it.
According to police, the parents of the students has not lodged a formal complaint but still police are intervene because of the sensitivity of the issue.
The college due to police intervene has relax the rules by permitting the students to wear hijab in the premises but not in the class room but the students are insiting to aloow them to wear hijab in the classromm also.
