13 streets in Netherlands renamed after Ahed Tamimi

Amsterdam: 13 streets and major roadways in several cities in the Netherlands have been renamed after Ahed Tamimi by the Dutch activists. Ahed Tamimi was imprisoned by Israel on the charges of slapping Israeli soldier. The streets have been renamed after her to honour the 17-year-old Palestinian activist who has become the symbol of struggle against Israel domination on Palestine.

It must be noted that the Netherlands ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The nation gives much importance to child rights; on the contrary, Israel violates child rights and is systematically denying rights to Palestinian minors. Even the 3-year-old child is arrested. Ahed Tamimi was imprisoned before she turned 17.

The towns and cities where the street names have been changed are in The Hague, Rotterdam, Groningen, Leeuwarden, Grijpskerk, Assen, Leiden, Heemstede, Tilburg, Vlaardingen, Maarssen and Nijmegen, as well as Amsterdam. One of such streets leads to the Embassy of Israel in Amsterdam.
