Islamabad, January 04: Two soldiers and 13 militants were killed in fresh fighting in Pakistan’s troubled Waziristan region and northwestern Swat valley even as troops were attacked by rebels at several places in the tribal belt on Sunday.
Four soldiers were also injured in the clashes and troops captured 36 militants during search and clearance operations across the country’s northwest, the military said.
A soldier was killed and four more were injured when Taliban fighters targeted security forces with an improvised explosive device near Jandola sector of Waziristan.
Another soldier was killed when militants targeted a post in Razmak sector with rockets and small arms.
Three militants were killed and four more injured when security forces conducted a sanitisation operation near Sararogha, a former Taliban stronghold in Jandola sector Waziristan.
Five more militants were killed during intense clashes near Maddi village in the same sector.
Troops freed three abducted persons and apprehended 22 suspects during a search operation near Jani Khel in Jandola sector.
Three suspected militants were apprehended during a search in Razmak sector.
Soldiers also engaged a group of militants near a village in Shakai sector and the rebels were seen dragging away some bodies after the clash, the military said.
