13 fresh Swine flu cases in city

Hyderabad, August 15: Swin e flu is spreading alarmingly in the State, with the capital reporting 13 confirmed and four suspected cases today alone, the largest number in a single day since first case was reported in Andhra Pradesh three months ago.

Wi t h the National Institute of Communicabl e Diseases (NICD), New Delhi confirming 13 fresh cases, the total number reported in the State has gone up to 92.

According to sources, eight of the 13 cases are indigenous. Of the remaining, two cases have to do with a 3-year-old boy and his 52-year-old female relative coming to Hyderabad from Singapore, and one each involve a 25-year-old man, a 7-yearold girl and another 7-year-old girl coming from Dubai, California (via Frankfurt) and Sydney respectively.

Meanwhile, four suspected cases have been reported: one each from Hyderabad, Kadapa, Anantapur and Khammam.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old MBA student from Karimnagar who was admitted to the Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital at Nallakunta died today. The doctors declared he had died of brain haemorrhage, but under public pressure collected throat and nasal swabs and sent the same for testing.

A 28-year-old businessman from Galiveedu village in Kadapa district, who showed the symptoms of the viral infection following his return from Sholapur, was quarantined.

In another case a 26-year-old youth from Kadirempally village in Anantapur district returned from Pune only to show the symptoms and was quarantined at Anantapur.

Three more suspected cases of swine flu have been reported from Khammam and have been referred to Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the authorities of Government Chest Hospital are learnt to have decided to set up five additional screening centres in the city to meet the public demand for screening for swine flu.
