New Delhi: Six passengers suffered minor injuries after 13 coaches of Chhapra-Surat Express derailed on Sunday morning in Bihar’s Saran district, an official release said.
“In the accident, five out of six passengers went home after receiving first aid but a woman was admitted to the District Hospital in Chapra. She was given Rs 5,000 as compensation,” a release by Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur, said.
“The accident occurred near Gautam Asthan railway station in Varanasi division on Chhapra-Ballia block at 9.45 am,” read the release.
General Manager Rajiv Agarwal has constituted a team of four rail officers to investigate the matter.
Following the mishap, 19046 Chhapra-Surat Express, 55017 Chhapra-Mau passenger train, 55013 Chhapra-Varanasi City passenger train and 55132 Varanasi City-Chhapra passenger train were cancelled.
Some trains including 55018 Mau-Chhapra passenger train, 55014 Varanasi City-Chhapra passenger train, and 55115 Chhapra-Bhatni passenger train were also cancelled, which was scheduled to run on April 1.
As many as 13 trains mostly plying on Chhapra, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, and New Delhi were diverted after the incident.
