The Telangana government on Friday sanctioned 125 Model Schools. Post bifurcation of Government of Andhra Pradesh, 125 Model Schools are earmarked to Government of Telangana.
In view of that, the government issued GO 8 for setting up Model schools under phase-II in the state under the centrally sponsored scheme ‘Scheme for setting up of model schools at block level benchmarks of excellence.’
In the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state, the then regime had accorded administrative approval for setting up 234 Model Schools in the educationally backward blocks the under phase-II of the scheme at a total cost of Rs 904.23 crore. The State government also agreed to bear 50 per cent on the total expenditure.
Both the central and the state governments will share the total costs in the ratio of 75:25 instead of 50:50 as mentioned in the 12th Five-Year Plan.
Each school will come up at a cost of Rs 4.807 crore instead of Rs 3.02 crore as envisaged previously by the erstwhile AP government.
