A 12-year-old boy who tried to take a lift in order to reach home on Saturday was kidnapped by the biker who gave him the lift.
The kidnapper asks the parents of the boy to pay a ransom Rs 50,000 to set him free from his parents. The police, however, was able to rescue the boy and arrested the kidnapper on Sunday.
According to police the boy, Vamsi Krishna, is a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) in Begumpet AFS near Bowenpally. At around 3.30 pm on Saturday, Vamsi got out of school and tried to hitchhike home.
The accused, Shyam, a cell phone repairer from Nizampet, was passing through on his bike when he saw the boy trying to thumb a ride. Shyam offered a lift, but instead of dropping him at his home, he took the boy to his house.
As the boy did not return home till late in the evening, boy’s father lodged a missing complaint with Bowenpally police.
At around 10.30 am on Sunday, Shyam made a phone call to Vamsi’s parents and demanded Rs 50,000 as ransom to release the boy. The victim’s family immediately approached the police and a trap was laid to nab the culprit. Police made Vamsi’s family members ask Shyam to come to Bowenpally to collect the money.
Shyam arrived at Bowenpally on Sunday evening, where, along with Vamsi’s family members, a shadow team of cops was also present. Police swooped on him. Vamsi was handed over to his parents.
During questioning, Shyam said that he was in a dire need of money and did not even have money to pay the hospital bills of his pregnant wife. “Shyam initially did not plan to kidnap the boy while offering him a lift. But a few minutes into the ride, he gets the idea as a means to make easy money,” an investigating officer said.
Shyam was booked under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He would be produced in court on Monday.
