BJP senior leader and former MLA V. Sriramulu has strongly condemned TRS Government for its plans to provide 12% reservation to Muslims in jobs and education.
Ramulu, in a media statement on Saturday, said that the increase in quota for Muslims would directly hit Backward Classes communities in Telangana State. He said providing reservation on the basis of religion was unconstitutional. He said by providing 4% reservation to Muslims in 2004, the then Andhra Pradesh chief minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has done injustice with BCs. He said in 2016 GHMC elections, 18 out of 50 seats reserved for BCs were captured by Muslims due to 4% quota.
The BJP leader said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was trying to please Muslims due to the pressure of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. He said that the Chief Minister had promised to give Rs. 40 Crore for International Islamic Centre and Rs. 8.50 crore for development of Mecca Masjid. Contrary to this, the State Government did not allocate any funds for 11 BC Federations. He accused the TRS Government of discriminating with BCs who constitute about 52% of the total population in the State. (INN)
