Srinagar, September 01: Twelve students were today injured after police resorted to cane charge as they tried to come out from their college and hold protests demanding setting up of a Central University here. A sweeper received severe injuries during the incident and has been hospitalised, official sources said.
Students of GGM Science College near Jewel Chowk boycotted their classes and held demonstrations on the college premises, the officials said. Thereafter, they tried to hold protests on the main road.
When the police tried to stop them, some students indulged in stone pelting following which police had to resort mild lathicharge, in which twelve students received minor injuries, the officials added. Later, normalcy was restored in the area.
