12 hours curfew relaxation in riot-hit Hyderabad

Hyderabad, April 06: In a major relief to the people in riot-hit areas of the Old City, day curfew will be lifted following improvement in the overall situation after communal clashes claimed two lives.

Curfew would be relaxed in the limits of 25 police stations from 6 am to 6 pm tomorrow, police said.

No untoward incident was reported during the curfew relaxation in the trouble-torn areas today, Police Commissioner A K Khan said.

Over 90 injured in the communal clashes that broke out on March 27, leading the authorities to clamp curfew.

Khan thanked the citizens, religious leaders, political parties and the media for their cooperation in restoration of normalcy.

Meanwhile, Osmania University, which had put off the degree exams due to the violence, today announced that the exams would be held from tomorrow in 257 centres.

Nearly 3.50 lakh students are expected to appear for the examinations in Hyderabad and adjoining districts.
