12 get bail for trespassing into Lankan high commission

New Delhi, November 24: Twelve people, accused of rioting after barging into the Sri Lankan High Commission here last month to protest against plight of Indian fishermen and Tamils in the island nation, were today granted bail by a Delhi court.

“The 12 accused people are admitted on bail on furnishing of personal and surety bind of Rs 10,000 each,” Metropolitan Magistrate Pritam Singh said.

The accused including Krishnasamy, president of Dalit group Puthia Tamilagm, had come to the court to surrender following the Delhi High Court’s direction to seek regular bail in the case.

G Sivabalamurugan, counsel for the accused, submitted that the accused have already been granted anticipatory bail by the high court and they be released on regular bail.

Earlier, an FIR was registered against them at Chanakyapuri police station under various provisions of the IPC, dealing with unlawful assembly, rioting and trespass.
