12 AP pilgrims suffer food poisoning in Kolkatta

As many as 12 of the 45 persons on a Kasi Pilgrimage from Nellore and Prakasam district have taken ill with food poisoning after they ate at a hotel near the Howrah Railway station.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu directed the Chief Secretary and other officials at Delhi to monitor help and medicare to the pilgrims. While the 12 sick persons have been admitted to Apollo Hospital at Kolkatta, one other pilgrim has been admitted at the Marwadi Hospital, near Howrah.

Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao directed the officials at Delhi to monitor the progress of treatment and also onward journey of the pilgrims from Kolkatta to their homes in AP safely at the earliest.

The pilgrims who included eight women, three children and 11elders had left Kavali on July 29th and belonged to Kavali and Ongole towns. Besides IAS Satish Chandra (Delhi), Nellore Joint Collector Rekha Rani are monitoring the situation.

A Helpline also has been set up with no – 9849904077 to give updates and information on the status of the health of sick pilgrims and return journey. (INN)
