118 cast vote for MLC elections in Telangana

Of 120 members of Telangana Legislative Assembly, as many as 118 MLAs have cast their vote to elected six members of Legislative Council in the polling held in Assembly premises on Monday.

Those who have cast include TDP MLA A Revanth Reddy, who was arrested last night on the charges of trying to bribe Anglo-Indian nominated member Elvis Stephenson. On court’s permission, Revanth Reddy came to the Assembly to cast his vote. The polling, which began at 9 AM today, concluded at about 2 PM with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao being the last person to cast his vote. Assembly Speaker S Madhusudan Chary was the first person to cast his vote.

Two MLAs of CPI and CPI (M) have abstained from the voting. While the MIM and YSRCP legislators voted in favour of TRS, the BJP MLAs supported the TDP nominee.

Seven candidates are in the fray for six MLC seat. They include Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, R&B Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao, K Yadav Reddy, Nethi Vidyasagar and B Venkateshwarlu of TRS, Akula Lalithi of Congress and Vem Narender Reddy of TDP.

The counting of votes will begin at 5 PM and all results are likely to be declared by 8 PM tonight. (INN)
