Hyderabad, March 28: The four per cent reservation provided to Muslims, which will continue now on the strength of the stay granted by the Supreme Court on the High Court order, will help over 11,000 candidates every year in getting admissions in various educational institutions to do professional courses.
Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly on Saturday, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah said in addition, the Muslim candidates would also get four per cent of the jobs in the Government sector, covering all its institutions and agencies, which would be notified by AP Public Service Commission and such other recruitment agencies.
‘Enhance quota’
Reacting to the statement, Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu, Vanga Geetha (Praja Rajyam) and floor leaders of the CPI, CPI (M), MIM and Lok Satta complimented the government for the efforts it made to retain the benefit.
Mr. Naidu sought enhancement of the reservation to Muslims to 10 per cent as their population was higher and sought it to be extended to local bodies and the Legislature.
