11 States, 3 Union Territories Go to Poll

Voting begins in 11 states in India with Kerala, Chandigarh and Haryana going into the poll for all seats. Three Union Territories including Delhi (all seven seats), Lakshwadeep, Andaman and Nikobar islands are also voting.

Kerala

Polling began Thursday for 10 Lok Sabha and 70 assembly seats in Odisha, officials said.

Polling began Thursday in six Lok Sabha constituencies in Maoist-affected districts of Bihar. The six seats have 80 candidates, including 10 women, in the fray. Read More

Chhattisgarh

Voting was sluggish in Bastar Lok Sabha constituency’s Maoist-dominated forested areas, but the urban centres reported brisk polling. Balloting was peaceful.

A Chhattisgarh election commission official said that till 10 a.m., 18-20 percent votes had been cast and polling was peaceful.

There was a healthy turnout of voters in urban areas like Jagdalpur town.

Madhya Pradesh

Voting picked up in Madhya Pradesh’s nine Lok Sabha constituencies as the day progressed, officials said.

An Election Commission official said that in the initial three hours, over 15 percent balloting took place.

As many as 118 candidates are in the fray in the nine constituencies – Chhindwara, Satna, Rewa, Balaghat, Sidhi, Shahdol, Mandla, Jabalpur, and Hoshangabad – where over 11 million voters will decide their fate. More

Haryana and Chandigarh

Balloting began Thursday in all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana and one seat in Chandigarh.
Nearly 1.61 crore people, including over 73.8 lakh women, are eligible to vote in Haryana to decide the fate of 230 candidates, including 10 women candidates. Read More

Jammu, the only Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir which has both the international border and the Line of Control, Thursday began voting in the national election, officials said.
