Moscow, May 04: Eleven police officers were injured in a terror grenade attack on a police station in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia near troubled Chechnya.
An unidetified assailant attacked a police station on the Kavkaz federal highway near Nazran, the largest city in the republic, using a grenade launcher yesterday, investigators said. ”As a result of the attack, 11 police officers sought medical assistance,” investigators said. No one was reported killed in the attack.
Recently, Ingushetia has seen an upsurge of militant violence, with frequent attacks on police and officials.
The Kremlin has pledged to wage ”a ruthless fight” against militant groups, but also acknowledged a need to tackle unemployment, organised crime, clan rivalry and corruption as causes of the ongoing violence in the North Caucasus region.
