11 die as lorry crashes into bus

Guntur, March 21: Eleven people including two women and a baby died in a major road mishap on NH-5 at Yanamadala village near Pattipadu in Guntur district yesterday.

According to information reaching here a lorry going towards Chilakaluripet from Guntur crashed into an APSRTC bus coming from the opposite direction. The lorry driver lost control of the vehicle after its front tyre was burst.

The bus with 40 passengers on board proceeding to Vijayawada from Addanki overturned after the lorry rammed into it. Eight passengers died instantaneously and three others died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The police and locals shifted the injured passengers to Guntur General Hospital and to nearby Katuri Medical College hospital.

The condition of 10 other injured persons is said to be critical. Several

others received multiple injuries.

The police were making efforts to get the details of the deceased.

Housing minister Kanna Lakshmi Narayana and SP A Ravichandra visited Guntur General Hospital. The drivers of both bus and the lorry were safe. Pattipadu SI SK Karimulla Shavali registered a case and investigation is on.
