11 arrested in connection with murder of GP Chairman

Dharwad, January 30: Police have arrested 11 people on the charges of shooting to death Chairman of Karadikoppa Gram Panchayath in the taluk on January 19, IGP (Belgaum Range) K S R Charan Reddy said today. In a press note here, he said yesterday a police team led by DySP Rajiv Banahatti apprehended ten accused who had escaped from the village after the shoot-out. Today another main accused in the case was arrested. On January 19 Shivappa Mallappanavar (40) was shot dead by a group of people in his village. The crime had been a challenge to the Dharwad district police since as all the accused had escaped. There was strong demand from the people as well as the leaders of the Congress as he was elected to the Gram Panchayath with the support of the party. The main accused was identified as Harischandra Patil of the same village. An Omni car used for the crime, a double barrel gun and another single barrel gun, 16 live cartridges and two empty cartridges were seized.
