100 years of Assembly Building, no celebrations in store

The Legislative Assembly of Hyderabad is the seat of the state legislature of Andhra Pradesh. This year the assembly building completes 100 years of its existence. But unfortunately no one bothered to hold centennial celebrations, let alone expressing grief over the miserable condition of the building.

Assembly building which is one of the oldest buildings of Hyderabad and it is where the power of the state’s laws and legislation are made and passed, is completing 100 years of its existence but it seems neither government departments nor Archeological department has any interest in it. Archeological department claims that the foundation stone of the building was laid in 1905 and its construction was complete in 1913. The building is neither included among archeological buildings nor has been listed among heritage buildings by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority.

The government which sits in the building and passes legislations from it has not announced centennial celebrations of the building, there is perhaps only one reason for this that the building was completed in the period of Asif Jah VII Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan. All the political parties should call speaker’s attention towards the centennial celebration of the assembly building during the winter session to begin form December 12 so that one of Hyderabad’s most majestic buildings gets its due appreciation.
