Beijing, April 02: At least 10 cases of radioactive contamination have been detected in China since Japan’s nuclear power plant disaster, China’s quarantine watchdog said Saturday.
High levels of radiation have been found on people, planes, vessels and containers entering China from Japan, said Li Yuanping, spokesman for the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
The organisation has ordered local quarantine authorities to intensify radioactive analysis of articles entering China after a devastating magnitude-9 earthquake damaged the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.
The first radioactive case involved a plane from Japan that arrived in Dalian city in the northeast March 16. Other cases involved several ships, containers and two Japanese tourists.
