Hyderabad, November 12: Ten pro-Telangana activists were today taken into preventive custody for allegedly raising slogans at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium at Uppal here, where the second cricket Test match between India and New Zealand has commenced.
“They (activists) did not try to disrupt the match. But, as some of them raised slogans near the stadium, they were immediately picked up. We have taken 10 persons into preventive custody after the incident,” DCP Alwal Zone M Shiva Prasad told PTI.
Protesting the alleged under-representation of Telangana youth in the Hyderabad Cricket team and also the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), some Telangana groups had demanded removal of coaches and players from non-Telangana regions, including former India leg spinner S L Venkatpathy Raju.
The police has already made elaborate arrangements at the stadium for smooth conduct of the match and in view of the protest threat.
