10 militants killed in Pakistan

Islamabad, April 27: At least 10 militants were killed Tuesday in clashes with security forces in Orakzai and Khyber tribal regions in northwest Pakistan, officials said.

Five militants were killed when security forces attacked militant hideouts in Bezot area of Orakzai, Xinhua reported, citing officials.

In Mashti and Ferozkhel areas of Orakzai, five militants were arrested and four others injured in clashes with the Pakistani forces.

Five more militants were killed and 18 others arrested, including two commanders of Lashkar-e-Islam group, in Khyber tribal region, said officials of the Frontier Constabulary, a paramilitary force.

A key Taliban commander Saleem Shah was arrested in Kurram tribal area bordering Afghanistan. Shah is reportedly a close aide of Hakimullah Mehsud, chief of Pakistani Taliban.

Meanwhile, troops backed by helicopter gunships, continued to target militant hideouts in the region.
