10 killed, 25 injured in different road accidents in AP

Ten persons were killed and 25 others injured in two separate road accidents in Andhra Pradesh today. Police said five persons were killed on the spot and equal number were injured when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling from Chollangi to Kothur collided with a tipper coming from Yanam to Kakinada on the national highway.

Kakinada Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sai Sri who rushed to the spot told UNI that all the victims were fishermen from neighbouring villages.

She said the injured had been admitted to Kakinada Government General Hospital (GGH) where the condition of one them was stated to be critical. The Korangi police have registered a case and shifted the bodies to GGH for postmortem.

East Godavari District Superintendent of Police Dr C Trivikram Varma and RDO Kishore Kumar visited the hospital and enquired the condition of the injured. Police identified the deceased as Dantikodu Varalakshmi (50), Koppada Seshamma (45), Balasadi Veerababu (40), Perni Nagamani (38) and Dantikodu Nagamani. A Vijayawada report said five people, including two women, were killed and 20 others injured, three of them seriously, when a tractor in which they were travelling, collided with a lorry at Sattenapalli in Guntur district, last night.

Police said 20 people of a marriage party were proceeding to Uppalapadu village when the mishap occurred. The tractor trailer was crushed and overturned in the impact of the collision. The deceased were identified as K Venkateswara Rao (30), R Narasimha Rao (45), G Nageswara Rao (45), A Parvathi (40) and Ch Koteswaramma (65). Three of the seriously injured were shifted to the GGH here. The others were being treated in government general hospital at Sattenapalli. UNI
