10 fishermen die as van rams lorry

Tuhni (East Godavari Dist), January 12: In a ghastly road accident, 10 persons died and 12 others were injured at Namavaram village in Payakaraopeta mandal of Visakhapatnam district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to the police, a van carrying a group of fishermen of Mandapeta and Alamur mandals in East Godavari district rammed a stationary lorry on the NH-5. Eight persons died on the spot and two succumbed to injuries at the area hospital in Tuni. The condition of two others is stated to be critical. Six of the deceased sat in the truck and four in the driver’s cabin when the mishap occurred. The incident took place when they were returning to their native places from Paravada village after fishing.

The deceased were identified as Jampa Krishna (35), Jampa Balaji (25), Jampa Nagababu (22), Dasari Ganesh (25), Siddhamtam Raju (40), Pandranki Suresh (20), Pandranki Appa Rao (40), Pandranki Sattibabu (40), Pemmadi Chinna (30) of Mandapeta and Pallari Sattibabu (30) of Alamur.

The bodies were shifted to government hospital at Tuni for autopsy. Narsipatnam DSP Narasimha visited the accident spot.
