10 die in road mishap in Mahaboobnagar disrict

Hyderabad, May 09: Pilgrimage turned tragic for three families from Mahaboobnagar district when the vehicle in which they were travelling met with a major accident leaving 10 persons dead and one injured late yesterday night.

Three families from Addakula and Pangula mandal of the district set off on a pilgrimage in a vehicle on April 1. They first visited Tirupathi and later visited several other temples.

They reached Mahanandi in Kurnool district yesterday and after having darshan were returning home at around 10.30 p.m from Kurnool.

As they crossed the toll plaza near Manopad, the vehicle crashed into a lorry coming from the opposite direction. “The lorry was coming in the wrong direction resulting in the accident,’’ Manopad police sub-inspector B Sayanna said.

The accident took place around 1 a.m on the National Highway-7.

Nine of the occupants died instantly while one died while being shifted to a hospital.

The deceased have been identified as are B Satyanarayana (50), his wife, B Chandrakala (40) and their daughter, Sravani (16), G Narsimhulu (55), his wife, G Yadamma (48), K Vasu Prakash (35) and his wife Krishnaveni (30), and two other relatives, B Ramesh (26) and B Manemma alias Krishnaveni (60) and the driver, B Janardhan Reddy (32).
