Dehra Dun, December 21: Nearly 10 Congress workers were injured in a mild lathi charge by police when they tried to break the barricade enroute to Vidhan Sabha to protest against the BJP government”s policies. However, Superintendent of Police (City) Jagatram Joshi denied lathi charging the Congress workers and said only one person was injured when jostling with the police while trying to break the barricade.
Hundreds of Congress workers led by Uttarakhand PCC Chief Yashpal Arya and leader of opposition Harak Singh Rawat gathered at Gandhi park and proceeded towards the Vidhan Sabha to gherao it on the first day of winter session, protesting against the government”s anti-people policies. Addressing party workers, Arya said the law and order situation in the state had deteriorated, financial position of the state has weakened and development works have also been halted during the BJP rule and the people of the state now wanted a reply from the government.
When the workers reached near the Vidhan Sabha, the police asked them to stop. But they climbed over the barricade and tried to break it, following which police resorted to mild lathi charge.
None of the injuries were serious in nature, Congress sources said.
