Ten out of 50 model market complexes have been ready for inauguration in the city.
The GHMC, on the direction of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has taken up construction of 100 model market complexes in the city for providing facilities to the citizens. Each model complex would be constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. In the first phase, the GHMC is constructing 50 model markets in various localities for selling essential commodities, including vegetables.
Ten model complexes, which were built and ready for inauguration are: Birappaguda in Ramanthapur, Uppal market yard and Model market in Justice Colony in Mansurabad near LB Nagar in East Zone. The construction works for other model markets in south zone are under progress. There were only 30 model markets in the city whereas the city needs 100 markets. The State government asked the GHMC to take up construction of other modem market providing modern facilities. (NSS)
