1 lakh from AP to take IIT entrance exam

Hyderabad, April 10: Nearly one lakh aspirants from the state will appear for IIT-JEE 2011 to be held tomorrow. In all, about 4.85 lakh candidates will take the examination at 1,051 centres in 131 cities across the country.

According to officials, rankers in the IIT-JEE will fight it out for roughly 10,000 seats in 16 IITs and Indian School of Mines (ISM) at Dhanbad. This year IIT-Kanpur is conducting the entrance test and will announce the results on May 25.

“Elaborate arrangements have been made for conducting the exam,” the officials said. The examination will be conducted in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Tirupati and Warangal in the state.

Aspirants are advised to reach the centres at least 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the exam. Those reaching the exam centre late by 30 minutes after commencement of the examination will not be allowed to write the test. Candidates will have to use pencils for marking their answers on optical response sheet (ORS) or answer scripts.

For the first time, scanned images of ORS with the candidates’ details will be displayed on JEE website after the results are declared on May 25. The authorities said that the move has been taken to ensure transparency and enable students to have a proper assessment of themselves by identifying their area of weakness and the areas they need to focus attention.
