Itanagar: One person was killed while another sustained minor injuries when a labour barrack was hit by a bamboo grove uprooted due to incessant rains at Hayuliang in remote Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Additional Deputy Commissioner B Tawsik and Hayuliang Circle Officer Dr Tojum Ete and police conducted a site inspection when they received information of the incident that took place late last night, an official said here today.
The road between Khupa and Hayuliang also got blocked by boulders. The team walked 5 km to reach the site.
The deceased was identified as M Tanti, a labourer form Tinsukia in neighbouring Assam, the official said quoting a dispatch from the district headquarters.
Anjaw DC Mamata Riba announced ex gratia relief as per government guidelines and directed the ADC Hayuliang to coordinate with the kin of deceased for further assistance.
Immediate relief of Rs 30,000 was handed over to the kin of the deceased by the ADC and injured A H Khan is being treated at community health centre Hayulaing.
The body of the deceased would be handed over to the family after post-mortem.
According to data recorded by Border Roads Task Force, the district has recorded over 700 mm rainfall in the past couple of days, a BRTF official said.
