Cairo: At least one conscript was killed and three others were injured in a drive-by shooting incident in Giza in Egypt early today.
The conscripts were on duty guarding the Niger Embassy in the busy Al-Haram street in Giza when gunmen opened fire on them, a security source from the Ministry of Interior said.
Among the injured is the embassy’s security guard, another source said.
Security forces are currently in search for the gunmen, who were riding a private vehicle and killed a conscript and injured three others, the source added.
The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013 by military following massive protests against his rule.
Hundreds of Egyptians including over 600 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
