The newly constituted Committee for ‘Swachh Telangana – Swachh Hyderabad’ met on Monday to review various civic issues related to sanitation, Engineering, Town Planning.
The Committee members discussed issues like garbage disposal, garbage transportation and solid waste management, procurement of required vehicles, tippers and ban on plastic and usage of the plastic and disposal of debris. They also stressed the need to fill vacancies in the sanitation, Engineering, Town Planning for effective implementation of the civic related issues on priority.
The Committee also suggested that the permission for hoardings should be made time bound and penalty should be levied if anyone violated the deadlines. In view of monsoon, the committee recommended deployment of one dedicated team at each identified stagnation point.
The Committee also suggested that the Administrative sanction powers of the Commissioner be enhanced from Rs. 50 lakhs to Rs. 2 crores and for Standing Committee from Rs. 2 crores to Rs. 10 crores and Council powers from Rs. 5 crores to Rs. 50 crores. It also opined that new contractors and entrepreneurs may be encouraged to take up the civic related works up to Rs. 2 crores and new contract system may also be planned.
Committee Members including Ministers Nayini Narsimha Reddy and T Padma Rao, MPs Ch. Malla Reddy and K Keshava Rao, MLAs, Dr. K Laxman and Akbaruddin Owaisi, MLC Aminul Hassan Jaffri, and senior officials from GHMC and HMWS&SB have participated in the review meeting held at GHMC Head Office. (INN)
