‘Cong. did nothing for farmers, but TRS fulfilling all its promises’

Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy today lashed out at the Congress leaders for their baseless remarks against the TRS Government.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan, Pocharam chided AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi for blaming Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on the suicides by farmers in Telangana State. Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi for his baseless allegations against Chief Minister KCR that he was ignoring the plight of the farmers, the minister said the TRS government was implementing many welfare schemes like Aasara, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak, Pensions and waiver of farm loans in a short span of a few months by spending huge amounts. But the previous Congress rulers remained passive and indifferent when farmers committed suicides during the UPA-II regime from 2009 to 2014, he alleged. “What steps the then Congress Government took to wipe out tears of farmers and their suicides?, he asked. While the fledgling TRS government was fulfilling all its poll-eve promises, the previous Congress government never bothered and did nothing for the farmers and poor in the country, he charged. The Congress can question the TRS Government if it has done anything during their rule, the minister said. (NSS)
