Mamata’s new theory: Dieting leads to Dengue

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked the youth to avoid dieting as that could bring down resistance levels and result in their falling prey to ailments like dengue.

Her advice to the youth when she spoke about dengue outbreak in the state at a press conference here. Dengue cases have crossed over 600 in the state.

“My young friends, I appeal to all of you, not to go on diet as this can bring down your immunity system and you can be prone to diseases like dengue,” she said while asking them to take plenty of food and water.

Barack Obama ‘man we can trust’: Michelle

US First Lady Michelle Obama called her husband Barack Obama as a “man we can trust” to revive the nation’s weak economy as President during her opening speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night.

North-east people begin return journey to Hyderabad

Govt urges opposition parties to get quota bill passed in RS

In a swift action to circumvent a Supreme Court order, the government today cleared a bill providing for reservation to SCs and STs in promotions in government jobs with effect from 1995 and it will be brought in Parliament today.

The Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved a proposal to amend Article 16(4) of the Constitution to remove the term “inadequate representation” to justify reservation in promotion and appointments.

Chinese president meets Clinton

President Hu Jintao met US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton here Wednesday and appreciated her efforts to push forward ties between the two countries.

Hu recalled Clinton’s last seven visits to China as the US Secretary of State, including four visits for the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (SED) and another three for the High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchanges, reported Xinhua.

Hu commended Clinton’s efforts in promoting the construction of the US Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo and the program for US students to study in China.

CM attempts to woo minorities, women, farmers and SHGs

In an attempt to woo minorities, women, farmers and SHGs, chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy announced enhancement of incentive for newly-wed minority couples to Rs 25,000 from Rs 15,000. He also assured that women would be given all-round support for their political, economic and social advancement. Voicing concern over poor levels of student learning, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today pitched for continuous assessment of benefits derived by children through education besides tracking attendance.

Addressing ‘Teacher Awardees’ on the eve of Teacher’s Day, Singh said the last eight years had seen a significant increase in enrolment of children in primary schools and a decline in the gender gap in elementary education.

SP protests promotion quota bill

The Samajwadi Party (SP) Wednesday said it will hold street protests against the UPA government introducing a bill to provide quotas in promotions in government jobs.

SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters outside the Parliament House, soon after the bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha, that his party would oppose the draft law in its present form.

The party is demanding that quotas, as provided for scheduled castes and tribes in the present bill, also be provided to other backward castes.

According to Dr. Mohammed Mushtaq Ali, a philanthropist has offered to arrange the marriages of two destitute Muslim girls on the occasion of his son’s valima function to be held on 15th September.

Such of the parents whose daughters’ marriages have been fixed and if they want to solemnize these marriages on the above date, may submit their applications along with the photo of the girls and a copy of Aadhar or ration card. The age of the girl should be above 18 years.

Urdu University arranges lecture on Teachers’ Day

Maulana Azad National Urdu University is arranging a lecture today at 3 p.m. to mark Teachers’ Day.

Dr. Sunaina Singh, Vice Chancellor of English and Foreign Languages University will deliver this lecture on “Teacher and Society”. Prof. Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University will preside over the function.

Phased agitation of JAC

Joint Action Committee of State Govt. Employees, Teachers and Pensioners has decided to launch agitation programmes in phases.

Their demands include appointment of pay revision commissioner, issuing health cards, regularization of contract employees, cancellation of G.O. 177 to prevent employees from strike and other important issues.

Apple expected to unveil new version of iPhone next week

Apple could unveil a fifth edition of its blockbuster iPhone at an event scheduled in San Francisco next week.

The Cupertino, California-based technology giant sent out invites today to media outlets for a product announcement on September 12.

The invite provided a subtle hint to the possibility that the company could launch the iPhone 5 at the event.

A brief message on the invite reads ‘It’s almost here’ and has a large number 12 that casts a shadow of the numeric five, hinting that the product to be unveiled will be the fifth edition of the iPhone.

Obaidur Rahman reveals in Bangalore

(Siasat News) In the documents submitted to court, Central Crime Branch of Bangalore police claimed that Obaidur Rahman was continuously in contact with Siddique Bin Yousuf alias Rafique alias Abu Hanila. Police also claimed that Obaid had made an unsuccessful attempt to trarget TDP corporators of Sayeedabad and Mangalhat. It is alleged that Siddique had connections with the Pakistani National Saleem Junaid who was arrested in 1998. The activists of Lakshar-e-Tayyeba have named Osman as Abu Hanzila. Osman is required by state police for the past 12 years.
