Chandrababu among many arrested in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 05: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu and leaders of Left parties were arrested while holding protests against price hike here on Monday.

Naidu was taken into custody along with several TDP leaders and activists when they staged a road block in the busy Ameerpet area.

Tension prevailed as Naidu’s supporters tried to resist his arrest for sometime. The protest caused a huge traffic jam in one of the main commercial areas in the city.

Second marriage bid foiled by police

Hyderabad, July 5 (Siasat News): Saroor Nagar women police paid a surprise visit to wedding function and prevented the man to get married for the second time. However, the groom succeeded in fleeing. According to the details, 35-year-old V Rama Rao Goud, who hails from Nalgonda and lives at Vanasthalipuram, got married to one V Padma, 30, three years ago. And now without divorcing her, he was trying to get married for the second time.

President Arrives To Warm Welcome

Hyderabad, July 05: The President, Ms Pratibha Patil, on Sunday was accorded a warm welcome at the Begumpet airport on her arrival to the State to attend a government programme.

Ms Pratibha Patil landed at the Begumpet airport at 2.10 pm in a special flight. The Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah, and the Governor, Mr E S L Narasimhan, presented bouquets and welcomed her.

BJP Wants Sonia To Reveal Stand On Telangana

Hyderabad, July 05: Taking serious exception to the Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah’s statement that the bifurcation of the State was not advisable, the BJP has demanded that the AICC president and UPA chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi, and the Congress State affairs in-charge, Mr Veerappa Moily, to give a clarification on Telangana issue.

It may be recalled that Mr Rosaiah, while chatting with the media on the occasion of his birthday, had observed that basically he was against bifurcation of the State and that development was the only answer to the separate Telangana movement.

She waited 30 years to see her son

Hyderabad, July 05: For 30 long years, Cherukuri Karuna, mother of slain Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad, waited to see her son.

But when the wait was over, all the septuagenarian was able to see was his lifeless body. She sat beside it for hours together receiving sympathisers, former Naxalites, writers, poets and journalists.

Azad was cremated this afternoon at the Punjagutta cremation grounds as the air was rent with slogans proclaiming that none could kill the man’s ideology.

Vidyasagar Rao likely to be BJP candidate for Vemulawada seat

Hyderabad, July 05: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bandaru Datatterya on Sunday indicated that senior party leader and former Union Minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao would contest the forthcoming by-elections from the Vemulawada Assembly constituency.

Talking to media persons at the BJP headquarters in Hyderabad, Mr Dattatreya said that Mr Vidyasagar’s name would be finalised if Mr Chennamaneni Ramesh does not contest for the seat.
Mr Ramesh had earlier resigned from the Vemulawada seat and joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

New Delhi, July 05: As expected, the name of Pradesh Congress Committee chief D Srinivas figured in the list of candidates released for eight constituencies out of the 12 bound for voting in the state on July 27.
Joining Mr Srinivas in the list of candidates is former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, who would represent the Congress from Yellareddy constituency.

TDP discusses issues to corner govt in Assembly

Hyderabad, July 05: The monsoon session of the state Assembly, scheduled to begin from July 7, will be volatile to say the least if indications are to be taken seriously.

The main opposition Telugu Desam Party will try to corner the government on alleged corruption in the irrigation projects, the alleged inaction of the government in the raising of the height of Almatti Dam, the Babli Project, the recent hike in fuel prices, the auctioning of liquor licences issue and fee reimbursement.

Congress announces eight candidates for Andhra by-polls

Hyderabad, July 04: Andhra Pradesh Congress chief D. Srinivas will contest from the Nizamabad Urban assembly constituency in the July 27 by-elections.

The Congress Sunday announced candidates for eight assembly seats while the nominees for the remaining four seats are likely to be announced in couple of days.

The party has fielded the same candidates who lost in last year’s elections. Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir will contest from Yellareddy while another former minister G. Vinod has been fielded from Chennur.

Vijayasanthi submits reply to EC notice

Hyderabad, July 04: TRS MP Vijayasanthi, who was arrested yesterday for allegedly making inflammatory statements on the Telangana issue and later released on bail, today submitted her reply to the Election Commission on its notice over her remarks.

“She has sent her reply to the Election Commission before the time given to her by this morning,” state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) I V Subba Rao told reporters here.

Foundation for YSR Memorial in September

Hyderabad, July 04: The foundation stone for the YS Rajasekhara Reddy Memorial will be laid by chief minister K Rosaiah on September 2.

This was decided here today by the cabinet subcommittee appointed to oversee the construction of the memorial. Subcommittee members — municipal administration and urban development minister A Ramanarayana Reddy, information and public relations minister J Geetha Reddy, home minister Sabitha Reddy and health minister D Nagendar held discussions on Saturday.

Vijayashanti arrested amid high drama

Hyderabad, July 04: Amid high drama, the police on Saturday arrested Telangana Rastha Samithi (TRS) MP from Medak Vijayashanti but within hours she was out on bail, of course after a brief stay in the Chanchalguda jail.

Congress MLA from Sangareddy T Jayaprakash Reddy too was arrested in connection with cases pertaining to violation of the model code of conduct and making inflammatory speeches as the Election Commission and the police started cracking the whip.

After making a vain effort to arrest the former actress yesterday, the city police arrested her in a filmi style today.

Hyderabad, July 04: Sympathisers, former extremists and civil liberties activists Sunday sang revolutionary songs and paid their respects to top Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad, whose last rites were performed in Panjagutta here.

The body of Azad, who was killed by the police in an alleged exchange of fire in the forests of Adilabad district Friday, was brought to his brother’s house in Madhapur Sunday morning from a hospital where it was kept Saturday night.

Azad’s Family Allowed to See Body

Mancherial, July 04: The autopsy on the bodies of top Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad and a journalist from Uttarkhand Hemachandra Pandey, who allegedly died in a police encounter a day earlier, was conducted on Saturday at the Government general hospital here. As per the court directive, the police allowed only the mother and brother of Azad, to see his body.

Three tenders shortlisted for YSR Park in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 04: Three tenders were today shortlisted by the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Committee for the proposed ‘YSR Memorial Park’ on the shore of Hussain Sagar lake in the city.

The final tender will be finalised at a meeting with Chief Minister K Rosaiah.

The Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone of the proposed park on September 2, an official release said here.

Steps to solve drainage problem: Mayor

Hyderabad, July 04: Hyderabad Mayor Banda Kartika Reddy on Saturday said that all steps are being taken to solve the problem of overflowing drains in the city.

Talking to media persons during a padyatra in Tarnaka division of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the Mayor said that she would soon call a meeting of the Ward Committee members and chalk out measures to solve the problem.

She said that the problem of overflowing drainage in Tarnaka Division would be solved after a Ward Committee meeting.
