Nellore, October 28: Four persons lost their vision in one eye and the eye condition of eight others was stated to be critical after undergoing treatment at a free catacract surgery camp held by a corporate hospital at Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.

Four persons lost their vision in one of their eyes while the eye condition of eight others was “critical” Dr S S Badrinath, Chairman of Sankara Nethralaya Hospital, where the patients have been admitted, told reporters in Chennai today.

Vijayawada, October 26: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today demanded the Union Government to treat Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Rs 1,000 crore advance package as an additional amount without linking it to its share and release Rs 12,250 crore for the flood affected areas in the State.

Nellore, October 26: As many as 12 patients who underwent cataract operations partially lost their vision, allegedly due to the negligence of the doctors at the Bollineni Hospitals here.

According to sources, 15 of the 30 patients operated on in the hospital on October 20, developed infection.

Following protests from the kin of the affected, the hospital management sent 12 of them to Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, and two to a private hospital in Vijayawada, while a woman, I Nagabhushanamma, was admitted, at her request, to the District Hospital here.

Hyderabad, October 26: The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a probe after 10 people who underwent cataract surgery following a free eye check-up camp a few days ago lost their eyesight, officials said Monday.

The incident took place in Nellore district, bordering Tamil Nadu.

After the surgery, eyeballs of four of the affected people had to be removed to save their lives, their relatives.

New Delhi, October 26: Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj has been given additional responsibility by President Pratibha Patil to look after Andhra Pradesh also, officials said here Sunday.

“The President of India has been pleased to appoint H.R. Bhardwaj to discharge the functions of the governor of Andhra Pradesh, in addition to his own duties, during the absence of N.D. Tiwari, who is governor of the state,” a statement from the President’s Office said.

However, the statement did not elaborate on Tiwari’s absence from office or the duration he would be away.

The TRS president attended a meeting held by the party with various employee associations in Hanamkonda late this evening.

Finding that a man was taking a video of the proceedings, MLA Etela Rajender warned him to abstain from the act. On being asked about his identity, the man replied, rudely, as what has the TRS leader to do with him.

Hyderabad, October 25: The relations between Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) further strained today with TDP accusing TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao of diluting the Telangana slogan.

Speaking to reporters here today, TDP leader N Janardhan Reddy said that TRS would close down its shop by next elections. He dared Rao to resign and contest again on his own. “If Rao seeks the mandate of Mahaboobnagar afresh, he is certain to lose his deposit,’’ Janardhan Reddy said.

rehabilitation of flood victims by collecting donations from the people during his street rallies.

Hyderabad, October 25: Television channels Saturday aired footage of India’s top Maoist leader Ganapati, creating a flutter in his native Andhra Pradesh.

All the Telugu news channels showed visuals of Communist Party of India (Maoist) general secretary Ganapati, alias Mupalla Laxman Rao alias Chandrasekhar, who hails from Karimnagar district.

The airing of the footage, contained in a CD seized by police recently during a shootout in West Bengal, created a flutter as these were the first pictures of Ganapati after he went underground nearly three decades ago.

Hyderabad, October 25: An undertrial prisoner who was reportedly under depression committed suicide by slitting his throat at Warangal Central Prison today, police said.

T Bhadraiah (58), a native of Komnapalli village in Khammam district, was arrested on charges of supplying weapons to Maoists and was lodged at the Warangal Central Prison since September 5, they said.

The BJP leader demanded the government to cancel the collection of crop loans in the flood hit areas and issue fresh loans to the farmers. In addition to the ex-gratia, pass books should be issued to the tenant farmers, he added. The Government should construct the houses with a cost of Rs one lakh each for the people whose houses were damaged due to the flash floods.

Hyderabad, October 25:The State government has declared a war on the epidemics in different parts of the State by launching a special drive to bring the diseases under control.

This was stated by Chief Minister K Rosaiah who had a telephonic conversation on the health scenario in the state with J.Satyanarayana, Principal Secretary, Medical and Health on Sunday.

The Chief Minister has called for a high-level meeting for a detailed review on the subject on Monday, especially with regard to outbreak of dengue and chikungunya.

Warangal, October 25: A remand prisoner in Warangal Central prison today committed suicide by slitting his throat by a sharp weapon in the bathroom.

Police said the jail authorities found Kali Bhadraiah(68) lying in a pool of blood.

The prisioner was arrested in September this year in a case under Arms Act. The body was sent for post-mortem.

Investigation was underway, police added.

Vishakatnam, October 24: Two ITI students aged 17 years were found dead in Gosthani river near Boyapalem village in Anandapuram mandal on Friday. The victims drowned in the river the previous day and their bodies were fished out after a 24 hour-long search.

Mugada Sai Swaroop (17) of Gopalapatnam and Meesala Venkatesh (17) of Gajuwaka were students of a private Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Gajuwaka.

Puttaparthi, October 24: Chief Minister K Rosaiah today said the State had received Rs 800 crore from the Centre towards crop insurance for the last Kharif season and an order was issued for payment of Rs 386 crore to the affected farmers.

Addressing a gathering at Satyasai Airport, the Chief Minister thanked the people of Anantapur district for their help to flood victims. At a time when the government had declared 981 mandals in the State drought hit, unexpected and unprecedented floods wreaked a havoc.
