Zero tolerance against Islamic State: Pakistan army

Washington :Pakistan army today said it has zero tolerance for the Islamic State terrorist group, which has claimed responsibility for the horrific attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.

Military spokesman Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said this while briefing the media in Washington where he is travelling as part of a delegation of army chief Gen Raheel Sharif who is visiting the US.
“Not even a shadow of Daish will be allowed in Pakistan,” Bajwa said, using another acronym for the terrorist group.

He said IS militants tried to get attention in Pakistan when the space for militancy was already shrinking due to crackdown against terrorist groups.

“People were fed up with terrorism and there was no acceptance for it in the society. They will be defeated in the coming days,” he said.

Official APP newswire reported that Bajwa said the COAS held discussions with top American civilian and military leaders on issues ranging from defence, military cooperation, regional security, as well as the long-running Kashmir dispute with India.

Regarding Gen Raheel’s visit, Bajwa said “all meetings were positive and discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere.”

He said there was regard and respect for Pakistan and its armed forces.

“The operation against terrorists will not end mid-way and will reach its logical conclusion,” he said.
