World Egg Day: Naidu endorses high egg consumption in AP

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today inaugurated the ‘World Egg Day’ celebrations here and lauded the state’s position in the consumption of the superfood.

He expressed satisfaction that Andhra Pradesh stands at a good position in both egg production and per capita egg consumption.

Citing statistical data, Naidu said, “Andhra Pradesh stands second in egg production after Tamil Nadu. The state’s per capita egg consumption is 99 eggs per annum as compared to the national per capita egg consumption of 68.”

He recollected the role of the late Sundara Naidu, a farmer who promoted the poultry industry in the state, and the late B V Rao, the founder of Venkateshwara Hatcheries, in the field of poultry in the country.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister exhorted farmers to take up poultry as an alternative source of revenue to protect themselves from distressed conditions in agriculture.

Earlier, the state Agricultural Ministry and poultry farmers conducted a run to promote egg consumption.
