Women who killed husband, Gets Masters from TNOU

The 43-year-old Usha Rani was among the hundreds to earn a Masters in Sociology. Usha Rani was in the news about three years ago, for she had murdered her husband while trying to save her daughter from being molested by the father himself.

Usha Rani who proudly lined up to collect certificates from Governor K Rosaiah during the convocation of Tamil Nadu Open University, is a temporary staff of the varsity in Madurai got distinction in Sociology.

Usha Rani killed her Husband as he tries to molest their daughter. “When I tries to stop him from his act, he brutally beaten me, finding no way I took extreme step and killed him”, said Usha.

Usha first imprisoned, but understanding her position after a detailed background investigation, the district police released her under a rarely-invoked Section 100 of the CrPC which deals with self-defense.

After coming out from the jail, Usha Rani landed in eddy of worries as she and her four children thrown out of the home by her in laws.

“I took a decision to learn and stand on my own feet. Now, I have a master’s degree,” Usha Rani told Express.

At the time of her marriage Usha clears her Plus Two. However, when she went looking for a job to bring up her children, the minimum qualification required was a degree. “First I earned my BA in Psychology in 2011 through distance education from the TNOU,” she recalled.

Later, she landed a temporary job at the Madurai office of the TNOU. “In addition to the temporary job, I take tuition classes at home,” she said.
