Women feeling unsafe in Hyderabad: MBT

Strongly condemning the rise in cases of chain snatching, the Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) has alleged that women were feeling unsafe to go out on roads of twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

In a media statement, MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan (Ex Corporator) accused the Hyderabad City Police of having failed to check the menace of chain snatching. Despite tall claims of hi-fi surveillance, installation of CC Cameras network and deployment of Quick Response Team, the gangs of chain snatchers have been playing havoc across the twin cities on almost every day. The chain snatchers have been operating fearlessly even in crowded areas. He said women were not feeling safe to go out, especially during evening hours.

Amjed Ullah Khan demanded that City Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy take concrete action to end the menace of chain snatching. He said steps should also be taken to control the crimes against women.

The MBT leader also expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of traffic in the city. He said all major roads are getting chocked during peak hours, both during morning and evening. It is taking hours to travel even short distances on roads like Shalibanda to Nayapull via Charminar,Dilshuk Nagar to Chaderghat via Nalgonda x road, Afzalgunj to Lakdi Ka Pull via Mozamjahi Market,Lakdi-Ka-Pul to Banjara Hills via Masab Tank, Mehdipatnam to Toli Chowki,Chaderghat Bridge to Afzalgunj,Chaderghat to Amberpet, Lakdi Ka Pul to Raj Bhawan, etc

He said that the Hyderabad Traffic Police did not adopt a scientific approach to deal with the traffic woes. He said instead of sitting in their AC offices, the senior officials should come on road to personally supervise the better management of traffic. He said steps should be taken to reduce the bottlenecks and remove other obstacles which are obstructing the free movement of vehicle on all important roads. He said that the situation was so worse that even ambulances could not reach the hospitals on time due to traffic jams.

Amjed Ullah Khan said that the Traffic Police is seen only during the VIP movement.Mr Khan said that MBT will launch a mass agitation movement by giving Dharna in front of DCPs and Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad office if the burning issues like chain snatching and Traffic jam issue are not solved immediately. He said that the promise of the TRS Govt of making Hyderabad a world class city has totally failed and Hyderabad has become the capital of chain snatching and Traffic Jam in the entire India. (INN)
