Woman murdered by in-laws in July; body exhumed now

Machilipatnam (AP): A 24-year-old woman was murdered allegedly by her in-laws three months ago and the body was buried on outskirts of their village, police said today.

The incident took place at Barumkula village in Krishna district in July but came to light today when the accused confessed to the crime, Avanigadda DySP Syed Khadar Basha said.

The accused – P Brahamneswara Rao and his wife Nagapushpalatha – allegedly killed their daughter-in-law Varalakshmi (24) on July 3 and buried her body on the outskirts of their village, he said.

The duo have been arrested but the motive behind the murder was not yet known, he said.

On July 4, they lodged a complaint with Nagayalanka police station, stating their daughter-law was missing. At the same time, the father of the deceased, Appala Naidu, also lodged a similar complaint.

During the probe, the police became suspicious about the behaviour of the couple who confessed to the murder after sustained interrogation, the officer said.

Their son, P Shiva Vamsi Krishna, a professional photographer based in Hyderabad, married Varalakshmi in 2012. In July this year, they came to the village for a family function and Krishna left wife with his parents and went to Hyderabad.

Today, the police exhumed the remains of a body which they said was that of Varalakshmi. The remains were sent to a forensic lab for examination.
