A 23-year-old woman today allegedly committed suicide in front of a temple here as she was upset over her lover’s refusal to marry her.
Police said they arrested the lover, Mahesh, on a complaint from the woman’s parents.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he had cheated three other young women, police said.
The duo were in love for the past one year and had physical relationship after Mahesh promised to marry her. However, he stopped meeting the woman of late and refused to marry her, police said.
The woman came to the famous Pattershwarar temple at Perur here, called up Mahesh and consumed poisonous cow dung powder and collapsed, they said.
Mahesh called up his friends to come at the spot and but the woman died on the way to hospital, they said.
