Williamson doubtful for first ODI against Lanka

Wellington : New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, who recently became the world number one Test batsman, is in doubt to play the first ODI of the five-match series against Sri Lanka.

The 25-year-old, who has been troubled by niggling knee injury, need to undergo a fitness test in order to play the match.

Confirming the news, batting coach Craig McMillan said that they were monitoring the player and the decision would be taken based on his situation on the Boxing Day, Stuff.co.nz reported.

He further revealed that Test opener Tom Latham would be called in as a cover in case Williamson misses the match.

Earlier, Williamson capped off a remarkable year by remaining unbeaten on 108, his 13th century, during his side’s five-wicket win in the second Test match against Sri Lanka.

New Zealand will play a five-match ODI series against Lanka, starting from Saturday at Hagley Oval. (ANI)
