Will resign if dignity of Legislature not maintained: Speaker

Ranchi: Peeved at the Executive allegedly undermining the Legislature by not adhering to assurances given in the House, Jharkhand Speaker Dinesh Oraon today threatened to resign if its dignity was not maintained.

“If the dignity and respect of the Legislature is not maintained I assure you that I will submit my resignation,” Oraon said while addressing the first ever Whips Conference here, ahead of the Winter Session of the Jharkand legislative Assembly scheduled to be held from December 15-22.

He was reacting to delay in the release of MLA funds to execute developmental works, putting the legislators in embarrassment before the people.

Oraon also wondered how legislators could get works done, which were under the domain of principal secretaries of departments concerned, in their constituencies.

He said he would ask the government for a definite assurance on the release of MLA funds in the December 14 meeting, which is convened a day before the commencement of the Winter Session.
