Will not contest polls, says Bhagat Singh’s grand nephew

Bhagat-Singh

Lucknow: The grand nephew of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, Abhitej Singh Sandhu, today said he would continue working for Aam Aadmi Party but will not contest polls.

Sandhu, who has been involved in a special campaign of AAP to associate youths with the party, told reporters that he was not a “youth icon” of AAP, though he has been given the responsibility to associate youth with the party which he wanted to “execute sincerely”.

Asked about contesting polls, Sandhu said, “I don’t consider myself capable of contesting elections. I only want to do maximum work for the party.”

Sandhu said that the struggle of those, who laid down their lives for the freedom of the country, was not against a particular section, but was against a dictatorial and cruel system.

He said that the system still exist only those who run it have changed.

“This was not the India which martyrs hd dreamt of,” he said.

He said that like British rule, the power still rests in the hands of select ones. “AAP was the result of the ray of hope which Anna Hazare’s campaign brought,” he said.
