New Delhi: The government on Tuesday clarified that Whatsapp, social media and payment gateways are not covered under the draft encryption policy.
In a release, the government made it clear that the mass use encryption products, which are currently being used in web applications, social media sites and social media applications such as Whatsapp, Facebook,Twitter etc. are exempted from the purview of the draft national encryption policy.
It also exempts SSL/TLS encryption products being used in internet-banking and payment gateways as directed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
SSL/TLS encryption products being used for e-commerce and password based transactions are also exempted from the draft national encryption policy. (ANI)
