‘West’ woke up to terrorism only after 9/11: Sandeep Dixit

New Delhi: Congress leader Sandeep Dixit on Monday condemned the horrific 13/11 carnage but criticised the ‘Western world’ for waking up to terrorism only after the 9/11 attacks, saying that terrorism had been rampant world over before the Twin Towers attack, but they had not paid much heed to it.

“They never care when terrorism was hitting India, nor did they care when it came to the Middle East. It’s only after what happened in the terrible airplane led terrorism in New York that the West truly realised that terrorism is something that can hit everybody. Now it’s unfortunately hitting their nation,” Dixit told ANI.

The Congress leader asserted that unfortunately the West never took terrorist incidents occurring outside of Western nations to be important.

“It’s good that these nations have also recognised the fact that terrorism cannot and should not be allowed anywhere in the world. It has to be more comprehensive. What happened in Paris is something to be taken in a war footing across the world. Just two days before in Beirut, 43 people were killed by the IS. How come nobody protested that?” Dixit added.

However, he strongly condemned the Paris attack and said that every terrorist attack has to be taken as an attack against humanity and peace.

Expressing solidarity with France and condemning the deadly 13/11 carnage, US President Barack Obama had on yesterday said the attack was directed specifically towards the civilised world, and assured his full support in hunting down the perpetrators of the attack.

“The skies have been darkened by the horrific attacks that took place in Paris just a day and a half ago. We stand in solidarity with France as this is an attack on the civilised world,” Obama said after holding bilateral talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the G20 Summit.

Earlier, French President Francois Hollande said the Paris attack were an act of war that that been organised, planned from the outside with ‘inside’ help and swore a merciless retribution. (ANI)
