‘We must not take away from seriousness of crime such as rape’: BJP tells Mulayam

New Delhi, Aug 19 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday alleged that Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has been repeatedly found to be making controversial remarks about the incidents of rape without even knowing the seriousness of it.

“With regard to the issue of rape, Mulayam Singh Yadav has been repeatedly found to be giving statements that are controversial. Earlier, he had said that is it so serious to give a death sentence for something like rape, which was during an election rally. Now, he has said is gang-rape possible as false allegations are sometimes done,” BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli told ANI.

“A crime has to be seen as a crime. The misuse of law is a separate matter all together. But we must not take away from the seriousness of crime such as rape,” he added.

The Samajwadi Party supremo had earlier claimed that when it comes to the number of rape incidents taking place across in India, Uttar Pradesh features at the bottom of the list.

Mulayam, who was speaking at a program to distribute free e-rickshaws under a state government scheme in Lucknow, made the controversial remark that, while one person commits a rape, four are named in the complaint, though rape by four persons is ‘practically’ not possible. (ANI)
